Mary Lou Allerding
age 53 of Harbor Springs was called home by her Heavenly Father on Feb. 2, 2011 after a long and valiant fight against cancer. Mary Lou was born in Petoskey on Nov. 25, 1957 to Nelson and Bernice (Fosmore) Allerding. She grew up in Harbor Springs where she attended school, graduating in 1976. Mary Lou attended and graduated from Faithway Baptist Bible College. Her summers were spent cooking wonderful meals at many Harbor Springs homes and cottages. She also taught Christian education in Boyne City, Sterling Heights and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. She attended culinary arts school in Baton Rouge, La. After which she prepared meals at the Arboretum, Walloon Lake Inn, State Road General Store and Harbor Point Golf Club. Mary Lou is survived by her sisters Janice Shaw (Gary) of Alanson, Ellen Allerding of Harbor Springs, Carolyn Peters (Egene) of St. Thomas, VI and Nelda Allerding of Harbor Springs. Also surviving are 9 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews. Mary Lou would also like to acknowledge her best friend from college Christy Lubanski of Atlanta, Ga. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Calvary Christian Academy Library Fund, Main Street Baptist Church Library Fund or Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. Envelopes will be available at Schiller Funeral Home where friends may call Wed. Feb. 9th from 6-8:30 PM or at Main Street Baptist Church where a funeral service will be held at1:00 PM on Thurs. Feb. 10th. Interment will take place in the spring at Conway Cemetery , Little Traverse Twp.
