Old Citizen Laid to Rest

William R. McCallum, an old and respected resident of this village, passed away
Sunday forenoon shortly before eleven o'clock. He had been in feeble health for the past few months and for the past week or more his death was expected any moment.
He quietly passed away, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. The funeral was held at the M.E. church Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock and a large number of the deceased's friends attended the funeral services. Rev. Carey of Menahga preached the funeral sermon and the remains were taken to Paddock where they were gently laid to rest.
William R. McCallum was born in Darlin, Ontario, on Mar 7th, 1842, and lived there until he had attained the age of twenty three when he moved to western Canada for twelve years when they came to Minnesota in 1878. He took a homestead in Paddock where he lived until four years ago when he came with his family to Sebeka. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Paddock, being the third one who came there and the last of three to leave. He died Oct 24 at 10:45 o'clock in the forenoon after a year of illness. He leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his loss, the children being: Mrs. David Traill of Sinclair, Manitoba; Mrs. Harry Farr, of Hillview; Mrs. Louie Sanford, of Hubbard; Mrs. Fred Miller, of Coleraine; William, of Missoula, Montana; Andrew, of Anaconda, Montana; Dave, of Beach, North Dakota; John, of Libby, Montana, and Ethel, the youngest who is at home.
The grief stricken widow and children have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their time of sorrow.
