H.C. Hale was raised in Washington County, moving then to Bell County, and then to Jones County in 1887. For many years, Mr. Hale was engaged in the livery and stock business. He and B.F. Bailey operated the Chittenden Ranch for many years. He was in the cattle business. He was a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason, and took part in the Woodmen, Red Man, and Knights of Pythias. He and Miss Sallie Davis married in Washington County. Six children were born into this union - Survived by Mrs. C.H. Steele, Mrs. J.K. Pittard, Mrs. Harry Tom King, Mrs. J.C. Letcher, Mrs. Ed Martin, Mrs. W.J. McCreight; one son - John D. Hale. Services were held int he Baptist Church in Anson with graveside services conducted by the Masons.
