Shirley Hardee Penny, 88, of 111 Robin Lane, died Tuesday, February 2, 2011 in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital.
Mrs. Penny was born in Johnston County, NC and was one of 10 children born to the late Major Ed and Patsy Jones Hardee. A retired sales clerk from Belk-Tyler Dept. Store, she was a member of Edenton Baptist Church and its Mary Bethany Sunday School Class and also enjoyed membership in the Chowan County Home Demonstration Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Burnice Lee Penny.
Surviving are two daughters, Pat P. Cobb and husband Richard of Martinsville, VA and Brenda P. Richardson of New Bern; a son, Eddie B. Penny of Edenton; two sisters, Margaret Moore of Raleigh and Sue Raybon of Wendell; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
