Funeral services for S.B. Loper, who died in his sleep sometime Monday night or early Tuesday at his home, 100 Scott Street, were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residence.

The services were conducted by the Rev. S.H. Maples, pastor of the First Baptist church of Athens, and the Rev. Ben Welmaker, pastor of the First Baptist church of San Saba. Burial was in the City cemetery. The Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were J.L. Flowers, L.E. Cook, Reuben Lee, Ed Wolfe, Will Dorbandt, and Henry Hart.

Mr. Loper was born on February 16, 1857 in Mississippi, and came to Henderson county when he was nineteen years of age. He had resided in and near Athens since that time. He formerly was engaged in farming, but later was a fruit and cotton buyer and operated Loper House for a number of years.

He and Mrs. Loper, the former Miss Laura Sides were married in Van Zandt county sixty years ago.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Dessie Benson of Fort worth, Mrs. Cordie Cooper of Athens, Mrs. Bonnie Jones of Dallas, Mrs. Evelyn Morgan of Athens and Mrs. Lillie Gauntt of Houston and eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
