He leaves his wife of 39 years, Janet M. (Bumpus) Arns; two sons, Alan M. Arns of Phoenix, AZ and John P. Arns of Sturbridge; three daughters, Mary A. Messenger of Lakeland, FL, Nancy J. Langlois of Southbridge, and Sheryl A. Giovannucci of Sturbridge; a brother, Henry Arns of Boston; three sisters, Frances Allen of Dorchester, Antoinette Eagle of Jamaica Plain, and Lucy Bough of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Webster the son of Joseph and Mary (Truppa) Arns.
He was a US Army Veteran of World War II.
Mr. Arns, worked at the Public House Restaurant in Sturbridge for many years. He was a member of the VFW post 6055 in Southbridge; he was a member of the American Legion in Webster and its pitch league. He was part of the Honor Guard in the Memorial Day Parade in Webster for 50 years. He was an avid bowler and was a member of many bowling leagues. He was also an avid Softball player and played for the Jack Benny League in Southbridge. He coached Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball in Southbridge. In his youth he played Semi-Pro Baseball.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge with a Mass at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton Street, Southbridge. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
