Stanley James John Stangle, age 97, passed peacefully into the arms of those waiting, on January 22, 2011, in the Dove Healthcare Center, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was a lifelong resident of Ashland.
Stanley was born, on January 2, 1914, in Medford, Wisconsin, the son of Martin and Ludmilla Stangle. He was a graduate of DePadua High School and Northland College, in Ashland. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and was a member of the Coast Guard Band. Stan's professional career found him traveling as a band performer throughout the United States in the company of fellow musicians such as Louie Armstrong. He and Verna Mason were united in marriage, in Cable, Wisconsin, on October 5, 1948. Stanley will be most remembered locally for the manor that he shared his love of music with students of: DePadua High School, Ondossagon High School and Ashland Middle School. He left behind fond memories of: marching his bands down the brick paved streets of Ashland, Ashland city band concerts at the bandshell and entertaining the patrons at the Rathsceller at Telmark Lodge.
His memories will be held in the hearts of his daughters: Jill (Al) Lantto, of Golden Valley, Minnesota; Kim (John) Solofra, of Minong, Wisconsin; Kathy (Tom) Malinoski, of Eau Claire, Wisocnsin; and his grandchildren: Jeremy (Angie) Ames, Tony (Emily) Hartwig, Joshua (Afton) Dunsmoor, Kailee (Brad) Kofal, Joshua Solofra, Joel Malinoski, Melissa Malinoski and Zach Solofra.
Stan was preceded in death by: his wife, Verna; his son, John; his parents; his brother, William; and sisters: Agnes Wilske, Mabel Toberny and infant sister, Maybell Stangle.
A private family funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland. Father Gary Bernhardt, O.F.M., officiated. The casket bearers included: Jeremy Ames, Anthony Hartwig, Joshua Dumsmoor, Joel Malinoski, Joshua Solovra, and Zachary Solofra. Military Honors were provided by the United Chequamegon Area Veterans, of Ashland.
Interment took place in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland.
Our Ashland Chapel will be assisting Stanley's family with his memorialization.
