William E. Beatty, 67, Jan. 25, 2011, in Palm Bay. He was born in Indianapolis, grew up in Stuart and moved to Brevard County in 1997.

He retired from the Army with more than 26 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major E-9 with a Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, one for eroism in Vietnam and a Meritorious Service Medal. His assignments overseas included Korea, Vietnam and three tours in Germany.

He worked seven years for Respicare as an equipment technician.

He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
