Services for Charles J Balthaser, 84, of 917 Ivy Lane, Wyomissing, owner of the former Sinking Spring Dairy, will be held Sunday at 2pm. The Rev. Walton R Horn will officiate in the Bern Lutheran Church, Leesport RD 1. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. Francis Seidel II Funeral Home, Sinking Spring, has charge.

Balthaser died Thursday morning (June 29) in the Leader Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Reading, were he resided since December 8, 1976. Born in Lower Heidelberg Township, he was a son of the late James P and Lillie (Blatt) Balthaser.

Mr Balthaser had been employed as a postal clerk for 30 years before retiring in 1964.

He was a member of the Bern Lutheran Church and served as treasurer for 40 years. He was a charter member and former member financial secretary of the Liberty Fire Company Relief Association of Sinking Spring. Balthaser was also a member of the Mount Pleasant and Grill Fire Companies, Sinking Spring Senior Citizen, Lodge No. 660, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Knights of the Golden Eagle, both of Sinking Spring, and a 50 year member of the Reading-Berks Auto Club.

His wife, Jennie M (Ernst) Balthaser died November 18, 1965. He is survivied by three daughters, Lillian B, wife of R Ray Shurr with whom he last resided, Ruth B, widow of Daniel Potteiger of Springmont, and Catharine B, wife of William Koch of Spring Township, seven grandchildren, a step-grandson and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Paul, , and four sisters: Edna, widow of Samuel Wartzenluft, Kathryn, wife of Paul Schadler, Mary, widow of Harvey Weidman, and Eleanor, wife of Raymond Auchenbach.
