Obituary:

Earl McIntosh Noe, Jr., 72, of Smyrna, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Carteret General Hospital after a brave and courageous battle against cancer. He spent his last days surrounded by his loving family and friends, more concerned about their suffering than his own. He always had a story to tell or a question to ask about what was special to each person and to the very end maintained his dignity.

Earl was born in Beaufort on January 12, 1936 to the late Earl McIntosh Noe and Edna Adams Noe. His brother, George A. Noe, precedes him in death.

He was a loyal member of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild for over twenty years. He was also a 50 year member and Past Master of Franklin Masonic Lodge #109 A.F. & A.M., a member of Crissie Wright Masonic Lodge #741 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite and Shrine as well as the Odd Fellows Lodge. He cherished the many friends he had in all of these organizations and especially enjoyed the many visits he received over the past few months. He touched many lives and will be remembered for the grace he showed during the last days of his illness.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Barbara Saulter Noe; two sons, Clifton A. Noe and wife Katie of Atlantic; Earl M. Noe of Sea Level; one daughter, Catherine N. Hicks of Clayton; a stepson, Charles Staton and wife Meridith of Houston, TX; one brother, Michael O. Noe and wife Jeanette of Beaufort; grandchildren Cory Noe, Brandon Struyk and wife Shelli, Laura H. Clifton and Amanda H. Russell; greatgrandchildren Austin, Nicholas and Hannah Clifton, Aidan and Landon Russell, Hunter Gaskill, Grier Staton and Aubrey Struyk.

The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate nurses on the fourth floor of Carteret General Hospital, especially Cherie St. John.

His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Eric N. Lindblade, Jr., pastor of Ann Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens, Beaufort.
