Their mother, Frances (Castleman) Laforce d. 1862 (not certain of the date, but probably not long after Lucy and Felix were born). A probate guardianship was opened and there were three separate listings all under the same Estate #2278 (p. 23), one for Polly E., one for Lucy and one for Felix. Frances’ brother Thomas B. Castleman was named guardian. In the same year, their father Walter Preston married a third time: Sarah “Sallie” C. Grady with whom he had five more children.
