James Polk Nicholson, aged 84, an Old Confederate soldier, of near Nethers, Madison county, in Nicholson Hollow, died on July 2d from the effects of old age. He was married three times and died a widower. He lived with his son James R. Nicholson, Walker Nicholson, who lives in Page county, near the Pinnacle, is another son of the deceased. Mr. Nicholson belonged to the Regular Baptist church. His funeral was conducted by Elders Warren Corbin and Hoard Berry, of that denomination.

James Polk Nicholson, a Confederate veteran, died July 2, 1930 at the home of his son, Mr. J.R. Nicholson, with whom he lived at Nethers. He was 85 years old. His request was to be buried in an army casket, which was furnished by Mr. H.L. Bowler, the undertaker.

Like most Nicholson men who were eligible for service in Madison County, very likely resisted service with the Confederate army. Conscripted April 1864. Assigned to Co. H, 38th Virginia Infantry. Deserted from Hanover Junction, Va., May 20, 1864.
