STEELE — Carl T. Christmann, 85, longtime resident of Steele, passed away Jan. 29, 2011, at the Napoleon Care Center where he had resided for the past three years.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Jacob DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens – Veterans Section in Bismarck following the service and luncheon at the church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Steele Chapel and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Carl was born Oct. 1, 1925, to William and Theresa (Hintz) Christmann in Hazen. He was raised on a farm one mile west of Hazen and was educated in country school. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Hazen. He entered the U.S. Army in October 1944 and was honorably discharged in November 1946. While in the Army he served as a light truck driver in Italy.

On May 17, 1950, Carl married Frances Kuntz in Bismarck. They lived in Garrison for two years while he worked on the construction of the Garrison Dam before moving to South Dakota to work on a dairy farm. In 1957 he moved to Center to run his own dairy farm with the help of his wife. He also worked at Missouri Slope Livestock Auction in Bismarck and Kist Livestock in Mandan for many years. They moved to the farm south of Steele, in 1974.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, of 60 years; sons, Bill, Golden, Colo., Carl Jr., Burlington, Colo., and Bruce (Lannette) Christmann, Kindred; daughters, Mary Ann (Les) Stadel, Rapid City, S.D., Susan (Paul) Kautzman, Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Nancy (Robert) Bosch, Kintyre; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Majors, Olympia, Wash., and Rosemary Loutzenheiser, Payson, Ariz.; one brother Albert, Hazen; one sister-in law; five brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Theresa Christmann; sisters, Freida Horning, Lillian Kessler, Albina Stevens, Lorinna Pfingsten and Ella Christmann; and brothers, Rueben and Samuel. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Innozenz and Eva (Emineth) Kuntz; one brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
