ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC - Francis Wade Atkins, 68, went home to be with Jesus Saturday morning, January 1, 2011, at his home.
A 2:00 pm funeral service was held Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Ray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Chandler, Rev. Bruce Martin and Pastor Gary L. Cobb officiating. Interment followed at the Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandy Ridge, NC.
A Rockingham County native, Wade was born September 22, 1942, the son of Robert Lee Atkins and Mattie Iris White Atkins.
He grew up in Mayodan and attended Madison-Mayodan High School. Wade was a member of the Christian faith and retired from Lloyd's Heating & Air Conditioning.
He was a Navy veteran as an SN, and served in the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie DeShazo Atkins; his granddaughter, Shania Cheyenne Panizzi and brother, Robert "Bobby" Atkins.
Wade is survived by his wife, Carolyn Atkins of the home; two children, Alan Zane Atkins (Deania) of Eden and Veronica Atkins of Spencer, VA; his sister, Margie Vaden (Floyd) of Sandy Ridge; five grandchildren, Brandon Keith Atkins, Amanda Atkins Talley (James), Jacob Wade Atkins, Aliyah Geena Panizzi and Joshua Eugene Panizzi; six great-grandchildren, Julia Roberts, Tanner Atkins, Kayden Atkins, Kyndall Talley, Madison Talley and Jorden Talley; two brothers-in-law, Robert Daniel Bigelow of Greensboro and Lacy W. Bigelow of Reidsville; sister-in-law, Frances Ann Pass of Greensboro; two nephews, Charles Matthews and Robert Matthews and several other nieces and nephews.
