She was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved with her family to Ridgewood, N.J., at the age of 5.
She grew up, married and raised her family in Ridgewood and nearby Wyckoff. She graduated from Ridgewood High School and then attended Duke University before marrying Paul W. Douglass (P.D.), the love of her life. She spent 25 summers at Ship Bottom on the Jersey shore with family and friends.
She moved to Stroudsburg, Pa., in 1970 and then on to Bradenton, Fla., in 1978, when her husband Paul retired. They were married for 54 years. She returned to the Pocono in 2008 and lived at the Pocono Lutheran Village in East Stroudsburg.
She was preceeded in death by her husband in 1994 and also two sisters, Marguerite Van Horn and Evelyn K. May.
She is survived by two children, her son, Bill Douglass and his wife, Phyllis, Stroudsburg, and her daughter, Bonnie Douglas and her husband, Dwight, Joplin; four grandchildren, Steven Dwight Douglas, Neosho and his wife Denita, Rebecca Keesling, Tulsa, Okla. and her husband, David, Darrell Albert Douglass, Easton, Pa., and Jennifer Alice Douglass, Stroudsburg, Pa. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. Her joy in life was her family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
According to her wishes there will be no public service. Following cremation she will be buried at sea. The family asks that donations be made to The Ozarks Center for Autism, P.O. Box 2526, Joplin, 64803. Attn: Heather.
