Son of Samuel & Cleta (Minor) Rowlett.

Leahmon Leon Rowlett of Howards Ridge, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep January 27, 2011 at his residence. He was 94. Born September 28, 1916 in Henderson Arkansas, he was the third son of Samuel Columbus Rowlett and Cleadith Minor. He married Maxine Baxter on April 10th, 1943 at Howards Ridge. She preceded him in death June 13th, 1997. They were married for 54 years.

He was recruited into the army on October 30, 1942. He served in the 96th infantry, known as the Dead Eye Division, where the best marksmen from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas used their sharpshooter skills.

He saw action in the southern Philippines and was wounded in Leyta. He was a combat infantry man and Tech Sergeant. He received many decorations and citations, including: WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Two Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.

He was a hunter, fisherman, and fishing guide in his younger days, and he helped to build houses and boat docks around the area. He and his family moved to California in 1966, where he became the Maintenance Supervisor for a large government housing project in Paso Robles, California. He was fond of telling stories, and he liked reminiscing about his father's place that now lies at the bottom of Lake Norfork.

Preceding him in death: his father, Samuel Columbus; his mother, Cleadith Minor; brothers Cecil, Glen, and Rudygene Rowlett; and sister,Berniece Kirkland. Survivors include: his brother, his sisters, two sons, daughter, six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A part of history has faded from our lives, may you forever live in our memories.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO. Visitation will be Monday morning from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Howards Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lick Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
