Vera Eileen (Barnett) Brown, 92, passed away on Jan. 26, 2011, in Stillwater, Okla. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday Jan. 31, 2011, at the Highland United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Okla. with Rev. Derrek Belase officiating. Internment will follow at the Clarkson Cemetery in Coyle, Okla. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Vera was born Sept. 26, 1918, to R.J. Barnett and Emma Moran Barnett. She graduated from Coyle High School before going on to earn her certification at the Oklahoma Beauty College in Oklahoma City. She married Ernest M. Brown on July 4, 1941, in Stillwater, Okla.
Vera was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and volunteered at the Sheerar Museum for 21 years, receiving the Pillar Award for Volunteer Services in 1997. She retired from the OSU Veterinary Medicine College in 1986. Vera was a skilled homemaker and won numerous ribbons throughout her lifetime for her entries in baking, sewing, canned goods, plants, and several other categories.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents R.J. and Emma; her husband Ernest M.; brothers, Harry, Thornton, and Forrest; and sisters, Edna Rains, Ethel McCracken, and Addie Priess.
She is survived by her sons David A. Brown and wife Mary Ann of Springfield, Mo., Rueben K. Brown of Tulsa, and daughter; Theona Howell and husband Patrick of Tulsa, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
