Rev. Lloyd Herbert "Herb" Capehart, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

He was born April 11, 1929, in New Haven, WV, a son of the late Lawrence Ray and Iva Phillips Capehart.

Herb attended First Baptist Church of Mason, WV, where he formerly served as pastor. He preached the gospel of Jesus Christ for over 60 years. He was a graduate of Wahama High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern Bible College, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1954. He was working on his Masters of Divinity at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.

Herb pastored several churches throughout his life, spending many years in full-time evangelism. He loved to play the guitar and sing songs of praise. He passed out thousands of little gospel booklets everywhere he went. He called himself a "literature evangelist".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Capehart, Jr., Staff Sargeant Joseph Capehart, George Capehart, and Floyd Capehart; and sisters, Wilma Morgan and Dorothy Adams Murphy.

Herb is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty N. Shinn Capehart of New Haven; his four children, Debbie Ray (Alan) of Cayuga, Indiana, Kevin Capehart of New Haven, Lynette (Joe) Johnson of New Haven, and Kelley Bell (Mark) of Old Hickory, Tennessee. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Cheryl Ray Burge (Adam) of Winona, Minnesota, Dr. Matthew Ray (Kelly) of Menomonie, Wisconsin, Scott Johnson of New Haven, and Aaron Bell and Christopher Bell of Old Hickory, Tennessee; and great grandchildren, Audrey and Caleb Burge of Winona, Minnesota, and Luke Ray of Menomonie, Wiscosin.

A celebration of Herb's life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Mason, WV with Pastor Rob Grady of Mason First Baptist, and Pastor Greg Locke of Global Vision Baptist Church of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee officiating.

Burial will follow at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, WV where military graveside rites will be given by WV Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, and one hour prior to the service Monday at First Baptist Church in Mason, WV.

Pallbearers will be Joe Johnson, Scott Johnson, Mark Bell, Aaron Bell, Christopher Bell and Dr. Matthew Ray.
