MARSHALL WENDELL BOMAR
1928-2011
Marshall Wendell Bomar, 82, of Pensacola passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Marshall was born March 16, 1928 in Paris, Tennessee to Hugh R. Bomar and Honor Lyde Mitchum Bomar.
Marshall graduated from Grove High School in 1947 and joined the U.S. Navy not long after graduation. During his Naval career he was able to travel and live all over the world. His career finally brought him to Pensacola where he would eventually retire as ADRC Chief Petty Officer in 1971. After his Naval service, he was employed at the Escambia County Road Department as a light equipment operator for 19 years before retiring. He then moved to Hartselle, Alabama with his wife Sherry where he enjoyed working in his garden and volunteering at Hartselle Hospital where he received many awards for his dedicated service. He also served as a volunteer for the committee on Church cooperation which helps distribute clothing to needy families while living in Hartselle. He later moved back to Pensacola where he would spend time volunteering at Pensacola Naval Hospital. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rose Parkhill, three brothers, James, Bernerd and David. He had a son, Wallace, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Wendell Bomar (Wanda) of Pensacola and Raymond Bomar (Alice) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Four Grandchildren, Ray, Michelle, Michael and Melinda. Six great grandchildren, Christi, Raymond, Emily, Selena, Michael, and Gabrielle with which he had a special bond and former Wife and best friend, Sherry Shirah. He was a kind and gentle spirit with many family members and friends that are deeply saddened by his passing.
