We are called upon today to chronicle the death of one of Xenia's old and most honored citizens, Rev. Thomas H. Winters, who passed peacefully away at his home on West Main street, this morning at eleven o'clock, after a long and painful illness.
Rev. Winters was born in Montgomery County, near the Hawker settlement, Oct 12th, 1812, making him over 77 years of age. He studied for the ministry, and in 1835 took his first charge at Somerset, O. The same year he was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Hively, who passed away four years ago. Forty years ago he moved to this city.
Nine children were the fruits of his marriage, five of whom are dead and four who are living. They are Mrs. Wm. Lewis, Mrs. Henry Eavey, Miss Mame and John. They all reside in Xenia, the latter two at home. Our of thirteen (brothers) and sisters, there are but four left, two brothers and two sisters. They are Valentine of Dayton, John of Springfield, Mrs. John Eichelbargar of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Mrs. John Garber of Defiance Ohio.
The funeral will take place from his late residence Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. Burial at Woodland cemetery.
FindAGrave member suggested that the survivor with the name Miss Mame may actually be Mary.
