Robert Maclachlan Angus was born in Lochaber Bay, Quebec on August 23, 1866 and he married Florence Donaldson on May 14, 1888 in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Angus worked as a civil engineer in Ontario before moving south of Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 1892 to the Angus Ridge district, which was named after his family. He homesteaded for a while and operated the Angus Ridge Post Office before moving to Wetaskiwin in 1903. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Angus served as a Police Magistrate until his death in March 1950; he was the Mayor of Wetaskiwin in 1915, 1916, and 1918; he served as a City Councillor for a number of years; and he built the Angus Theater.
