SERVICE FOR ROSE A. MOTT HELD MONDAY
Memorial services were held in Kouts Monday afternoon for Mrs. Rose Amelia Mott, who died Nov. 28 in Kouts at the age of 75 years. Rev. J. P. Thommen officiated at the rites.
The decedent was born in Mokena, Ill., on March 5, 1865, the daughter of William Ambrose Bancroft and Mary Ann Millard Bancroft. She spent the greater part of her life in Kouts and also resided in Chesterton.
In July, 1881, she was married to Frank Lindy and to them were born three sons and two daughters, William, Richard and Frank of Valparaiso, and Lillian Ridgway of Ragsdale, Ill., and Ethel Parker of Robinson, Ill. In May, 1900, she married Ira Brockway and to them were born three children, Winfred Brockway of Porter, Clinton Brockway of Valparaiso and Bertha Jellef of Whiting. Mrs. Mott's third marriage was to Louis Mott in July, 1927.
Survivors besides the children are three brothers and two sisters, Albert and Charles Bancroft of Chesterton, and George Bancroft of Wheatfield, and Sarah Knapp of Springfield, Mo, and Lydia Peterson of Lowell, Ind.

Published in the Vidette-Messenger of Porter County (Valparaiso, IN), on Thursday, December 5, 1940, pg. 2.

*There are several contradictions between the Federal Censuses, the obituary and the death certificate. The 1870, 1880 and 1940 census read that she was born in Indiana. While the 1900 reads Indiana, the 1910 reads New York. Two of the death certificates for her young children state she was born in Chesterton, Ind. Rose's death certificate states she was born in Porter County, IN, while the obituary reads Mokena, Ill. Also, on other documents, I have seen her middle name as Ann, while the obituary reads Amelia. Also, the wedding date between Rose and Frank on the marriage index states they were wed on Nov. 9, 1882, while the obituary reads July 1881.*
