Charlie E. Blankenship, 86, of Wolford, died Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Cynthia Blankenship. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a retired coal miner, having worked for Harman Coal Corporation for 44 years, was a member of UMWA Local #7025, and a member of Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Blankenship; one grandson, Matthew Blankenship; one brother, Wallace Blankenship; and one sister, Fannie Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Stacy Blankenship; four daughters, Myrtle Weir and husband, Johnny, of Colorado Springs, CO, Annie Maiorca and husband, Nicholas of Haymarket, Virginia Hudson and husband, Jerry, of Oklahoma City, OK and Dorothy Barnett and husband, Steve, of Rochester Hills, MI; four sons, Charlie Blankenship, Jr. and Edward Blankenship and wife, Charlease, all of Wolford, Donnie Blankenship of Vansant, and Harold Blankenship and wife, Rebecca, of Kent, OH; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, September 7 at Short-ridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, with Elders Roscoe Crouse, Bill McCoy and Curtis Crouse officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Active pallbearers were Brian Whited, Chuck Smith, Nicholas Maiorca, Steve Barnett, Justin Blankenship and Sarah Blankenship.
Honorary pallbearers were Buchanan General Hospital ICU nursing staff and Dr. J.G. Patel.
