According to the 1870 U.S. Census for Heath's Creek township, Pettis county, Missouri, James Adams owned real estate in the amount of $700 and personal estate of $200. He was living next door to his mother-in-law, widow Susan F. (Howard) Ellis and receiving mail at the Sedalia post office.
This is James Ignatious Adams. He was the first husband and first cousin of Martha Jane Ellis. They had four children prior to his death at the age of 38. He is the son of Francis A. Adams and Rachel Ellis Adams.
