The funeral of Benjamin F. Adams, sr., was held his morning at the residence on south College avenue in charge of Rev. Collins. The service which began at 8:30 o'clock was attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. Music was in charge of Mrs. James Bowles and was sung by a quartette of Mrs. Bowles, Wallace Pauley, Paul Baker and Miss Haidee Nuckols. The selections were, "Saved by Grace," "Is This Not the Land of Beulah" and "It is Well with My Soul." The pall bearers were: Hubert and Fred Beck, Wm. Telfer, Dr. Culmer, Arthur Brant, and John Ehni.
Directly after the services the remains were taken to the Adams cemetery west of Stanford.

Benjamin F. Adams Passes Away
Benjamin F. Adams, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Bloomington, died last Thursday morning in the 83d year of his age. His surviving children are William H. Adams, Benjamin F. Adams, jr., Mrs. J. K. Beck and Mrs. William Telfer. For 60 years Mr. Adams was a member of the Methodist church and one of its most active workers, always giving liberally of his means to maintain and upbuild the interests of the church. His social qualities were such as to win the esteem of his fellow citizens. His life was an open book. He was just what he appeared to be. The community can ill afford to lose such men.

BENJAMIN F. ADAMS, a native of Monroe County, Ind., was born in Indiana Creek Township January 2, 1827. He was the eldest son of George and Mary (Freeland) Adams, natives of Kentucky, who located in Indian Creek Township in 1818. There the father died July, 1853, and the mother in November, 1871. When about nineteen years of age, our subject began teaching school, and continued about two years. For some time following, he assisted his father on the farm, and when twenty-three years of age, he formed a partnership with William
Dudley in the general merchandise business at Stanford, Van Buren Township, Monroe County, continuing three years. At the death of his father he purchased the interests of the other heirs in the old homestead farm, and engaged in farming until September, 1872, at which time he removed to Bloomington for the purpose of educating his children. Here he embarked in the administrator's business, and at present is the assignee and administrator of many estates. On the 8th day of May, 1853, he was married to Harriet J. Baker, daughter of Absalom Baker, an early settler in Monroe County. His wife dying February 14, 1865, he was married December 8, 1880, to Elizabeth (Betty) Evans, of Mason County, Ky. He was a charter member of Stanford Lodge, No. 173, A., F. & A.M., and is an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He served some time as Councilman, and is at present a member of the City Board of School Trustees.
