Statesboro - James Clayton Hardy, 66, died Saturday morning at Bulloch Memorial Hospital after a short illness. The native of Habersham County had lived in Bulloch County most of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Statesboro and Masonic Lodge No. 96 in Baltimore, Md., and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 21 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. J. C. Hardy of Statesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas Ray of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Michael Perham of Sail Creek, Tenn.; a son, Vernon C. Hardy of Decatur; his mother, Mrs. Dora C. Hardy of Statesboro; four sisters, Mrs. Ann Boswell and Mrs. Isabelle Gay, both of Statesboro, Mrs. Francina Deal of Register and Mrs. O'Neal Cone of Hinesville; and four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Barnes-Hodges Funeral Home in Statesboro, with burial in Eastside Cemetery.
