Died: Thursday, January 20, 2011

Verla R. Brown, 92, Corydon, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

Born May 4, 1918, in Corydon, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ella B. Johnson Flock.

She had been employed by the old ICI Ammunitions Plant in Charlestown and as an operator at the old Eureka Telephone Co. and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, Old Capitol Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Corydon Christian Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and a grandson, David Ash.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca R. Ash of Flower Mead, Texas, and four grandchildren.

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 8 p.m., with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service at 7 and an Eastern Star service at 7:30, and Saturday, Jan. 29, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

Officiant: The Rev. Lori Lewis.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or to her church.
