Sherebiah Leach, Jr., s. of Sherebiah Leach, Sr. and Lydia Wilbur, b. Oct. 25, 1771 at Westmoreland, NH. He purportedly d. Sept. 3, 1848 at Sutton, Quebec, Canada.

On May 15, 1796 in Westmoreland, NH Sherebiah m. 1) Abigail Fuller, dau. of Dr. Noah Fuller and Esther Ware, b. Feb. 1, 1772 in Wrentham, Mass. They had eight children and apparently divorced in Vermont. Abigail subsequently resided with one of her children including with son Benjamin Hillyard Leach, at Fairfield, VT. She d. in Fairfield Apr. 14, 1840.

On May 1, 1820 Sherebiah m. 2) Mary Galusha who purportedly d. in 1870 in Belchertown, Mass. By this marriage were b. six children purportedly in Sutton, Quebec, Canada. These latter children are outlined in their mother's memorial.

The children of Sherebiah Leach, Jr. and first wife Abigail Fuller are summarized below. The 1926 claim by F. Phelps Leach [*1] that the children were all b. in Westmoreland, NH is not supported by sequential censuses in the U.S. and most importantly where, as married adults, the children consistently claimed they were born. While living, sons Leonard W. and Benjamin H. were consistently enumerated as having been b. in Canada. But, at this late date where in Canada would be mere conjecture. Yet, all of the adult children of these two brothers who lived out their lives in the U.S. consistently claimed their respective father was b. in Vermont.

In the August 1800 census both Sherebiah Leach Sr. and his son Sherebiah, Jr. were separately enumerated in Westmoreland, NH. Then in the August 1810 census both are enumerated at the Town of Belvidere, which at the time was in extreme southeast Franklin County but now is in northwest Lamoille County, VT. In August 1820 at least Sherebiah Leach, Sr. was residing in the Town of Fairfield, Franklin County, VT, latter whose northern town boundary is the US-Canadian border. It is well documented that following the American Rev. War many American families that migrated to extreme northern Vermont thought they had settled just over the international border in Canada only to find they were residents of Vermont.
