Great, Great, Great Grandfather

Frederick Klett was born in Ruith (Ruit), in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg. He emigrated to Philadelphia, USA in 1805. He was one of the founding members of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and the first American Consul to the Kingdom of Wurttemberg. Mr. Klett owned a drugstore on Callowhill Street in Philadelphia and has been described as "an active and enterprising man well respected during his long business career." (First Century of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy 1922). The well-known photographer Frederick Gutekunst was one of the men who apprenticed with Mr. Klett at his drugstore. Obituary: North American and United States Gazette, July 28, 1859. "On the 26th inst., FREDERICK KLETT, in the 65th year of his age. His male relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, from the residence of his son-in-law, Charles Baker, No. 1233 Arch street, on Saturday morning, 30th inst., at 2 1/2 o'clock. Interment at Laurel Hill."
