Bethalto - Stanley A. Madison, 74, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 1994, at University Manor in Edwardsville, after a lengthy illness.

Born June 3, 1920, in Jacksonville, he was a son of the late Glen and Pearl (Van Hyning) Madison.

A US Army World War II veteran, he was a furnace operator at Olin Brass in East Alton for 40 years, retiring in March 1982. He was a member of Machinist and Aerospace Worker's Union Local GGO in East Alton and Bethalto American Legion Post 214 and had been a volunteer with the Bethalto Fire Department
for 28 years.

He married the former Mary Belle Richards on September 25, 1937 in Alton. They were married for 57 years.

Also surviving are a daughter, Marcia Leverett of Bethalto; a son, Dennis Madison of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Susan Todd, Debra Burns, Michael Madison and Denise McGaughey; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Kathryn Tribout of Belleville, Alma Schultz of Orlando, Florida, Louise Sanders of Alton, Janet Myreck of California and Martha Kernozk of New London, Connecticut; and two brothers, Charlie Madison of Alton and David Madison of Centralia.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Killebrew and Valma McDonald; and a brother, George Madison.

Visitation will be from 6-9pm today at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, where services will be at 11am Saturday. Chaplain Karen Mueller will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Wood River Township Hospital Hospice Program.
