Died after 1870 in Walkers Meadow, Greenbrier County, West Virginia

Joseph was a farmer. He was the son of Mary Meeks and Robert Walkup. Mary was born about 1750 in Virginia. Robert was born in 1748, died on June 28, 1821.

Joseph married Nancy A. Price on July 10, 1808 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. They had nine children including Mary, Ruth, Joseph Jr., Catherine B., Sarah Ann, Lyman Alexander, and Thomas Walkup.

They also had an older daughter and a younger son. Their older daughter was born about 1810. She is one of four daughters listed in the 1820 census (one year before sister Sarah was born). Their youngest son is probably William Walkup, one of four sons listed in the 1830 and 1840 census. William was born about 1829 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, died on September 4, 1862, after being hospitalized during the war. William was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. William was living with Rebecca Walkup's son James Jackson Burns in District 18, Greenbrier County, Virginia in 1850, and living with Mary Walkup and William Heaster in District 2, Greenbrier County, Virginia in 1860. William was possibly married to Malinda S. Legg on July 5, 1852 in Greenbrier County, Virginia.
