Esther Ekstein Obituary
Esther Elaine Ekstein
(August 6, 1924 - May 28, 2009)

Esther was born on a farm in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to parents Jacob and Anna Marie Greenwald. The Greenwald family immigrated from Russia in 1913 and landed in Baltimore, Maryland. From there they went on to Fort Morgan where they raised eleven children.

At age 17, Esther met her future husband, Bill Ekstein, who was in the Army and stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Esther and Bill were married October 6, 1943.

In 1953, they moved to Humboldt County where they purchased property and began to raise a family. Esther's years were spent managing her apartments, attending Veterans functions and caring for her children and grandchildren.

Esther was always a very industrious and independent woman, who was known to often remark that her favorite store was a hardware store. It seemed that she was always at work on some new project or tending to her garden.

Esther's greatest strength was her family. Words cannot describe how much we loved her or how much she loved us. She was such an intelligent, tough and honest woman who we completely and totally respect. Esther and Bill were the heart of our family and as much as we try to carry on, a part of us will be gone forever.

She is survived by her daughter, Trina McArthur, granddaughter, Lisa McArthur, grandsons; Kevin Silence and Derek McArthur, and niece, Sherry Graham of Pennsylvania.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Bill Ekstein and son Doug Ekstein.
