Patricia Winkler Thompson, 77, passed from this life January 2, 2010, in a hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she had been living in a nursing home for the past few years.

Patsy, as she was called back then, was the valedictorian in 1950 for the last class to graduate from the old Olla- Standard High School.

She was the top academic performer in the 23-member OSHS class of 1950. She later earned bachelors and master's degrees at Northwestern State College (now University) at Natchitoches. She was a member of the NSC Senior Hall of Fame in 1954.

Her career was as a teacher in various high schools in Louisiana. She was an active member of Future Homemakers of America and of Business and Professional Women. She was once state 4-H president in Louisiana.

Patsy was buried in Newellton next to her husband, Dr. Ed Thompson, also a teacher and school administrator.

Patsy was born May 14, 1932 in Shreveport and grew up in the Standard Community, just north of Olla in LaSalle Parish.

Survivors include three sons and their families, Tony Thompson, a medical doctor in Nacogdoches, TX and wife Patricia; his twin, Bruce Thompson, a medical doctor in Searcy, AR, and his wife, Libby; and Mike Thompson of St. Joseph and his wife, Lesley; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
