Burton R. Baldwin, 77, passed away Dec. 23, 2010 at Sunrise Cottages of Rochester, Minn., were he had resided for the last year of his life.

Burt was born in Newton, Kansas on Nov. 16, 1933, to Raymond Baldwin and Rilla Williams Baldwin. He lived in Topeka, KS until he graduated from high school and then started college at University of Kansas in Lawrence. He graduated in June 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in radiation biophysics.

Between then and 1966, he lived and worked in Kansas City, Kan., and Belton, Mo., as a health and safety engineer. In 1966, he returned to Lawrence to finish graduate school.

After earning his Master of Science in radiation biophysics degree, he and his family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. He started working for the Idaho Nuclear Corp., later known as INEL/INL, in September 1967 and worked at several facilities there until his retirement in 1992.

Burt was very active in the local Episcopal Church congregations; St. John's, which later became St. Luke's Episcopal Church, as well as the Diocesan Level of the Church. He was also very active in various community organizations and had a special passion for the Idaho Falls Community Food Bank.

During his retirement, he traveled to the Philippines several times to visit one of his sons. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also very skilled with his hands and could build or repair almost anything.

Burt married (Mary) Lelia Heffner on Nov. 28, 1957. They divorced in 1974. He married Marian Darke on Dec. 27, 1976. They later divorced. He married Susan Otto Lintner on May 18, 1996. She preceded him in death in 2002.

Burton is survived by four children: Arthur R.E. Baldwin, of Salt Lake City, UT, Bruce W. (Donna) Baldwin, of Redondo Beach, CA, Barbara B. (Harold) Solbrig, of Rochester, MN, and Nina Fife Baldwin, of Idaho Falls, ID; three stepchildren: Julie Erikson and William Lintner, both of Boise, ID, and Ross Lintner of Idaho Falls; and five grandchildren.

Burton is preceded in death by his wife, Susan; one daughter, Rilla Lee; his parents, Raymond and Rilla; and his stepmother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Idaho Falls Community Food Bank or to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in memory of Burt Baldwin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church located at 270 N. Placer Ave. in Idaho Falls. The Rev. Susan Elizabeth Speir will be presiding at the service. A reception will follow.
