Henry Zessin was born October 3, 1859, in the Province of Pommern, near Stolp, Germany. (Which is now Poland) He was Eleven years old when his parents migrated to the United States. It is believed that he farmed with his father on the original homestead. He married Mary Carson on October 18, 1881. They lived in Madison, where Henry either owned or worked in a bar, until a couple children were born. They decided to get away from it and moved back to the farm.
Henry was short, round and jolly, sometimes forcefully outspoken. He smoked a pipe which his wife nagged him about as he left matches everywhere. He liked to tease, joke and tell stories about his trip to Florida. Due to his excess weight, for he liked to eat a lot, he always used a cane when he walked. Mary, his wife was a terrific cook, a neat housekeeper and worked very hard, always raised a huge garden. She was small, blond and has some freckles.
They bought a farm ten miles south of Meadow Grove near West Emerick. They lived there until Henry passed away December 24, 1935.
Daughter-in-law, Hulda Zessin
Granddaughter, Evelyn Janney
