Helen "Fran" Mantifel

Helen "Fran" Mantifel, 83, of Tigard died of cancer on April 8, 1993.

She was born May 28, 1909 in West Linn.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Newport where she was a member of the Altar Guild.

She graduated from West Linn High School. Before World War II she was office manager for Moskee Investments. She worked in the office of Albina Shipyards during World War II and was also employed at Union Pacific. She and her husband owned and operated Coast Disposal in Newport.

She is survived by her son, Jim Mendenhall of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Howard T. Shipley of Seaside; nieces, Susan Keith of South Carolina, Teri Dahl if Minnesota, and Jean Robins of Stayton; a nephew, David Shipley of West Linn; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 13 at Young's Funeral Home in Tigard.

Vault interment was in Eureka Cemetery in Newport.
