Bank Street Merchant Dies

Joe D. Curry, 54, 2319 Quince Dr. SE, a nephew of Sen. John Sparkman, died Monday night of an apparent heart attack at the home of Alvin Mendel, 2020 Nelson St. SE.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Rev. Joe Ray and Rev. Joe Hoover officiating, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery, Guntharp Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Curry was a member of the Democratic Executive Committee of Morgan County and was general manager of Bank St. Furniture and Appliances.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Laurice Curry, Decatur; a son, Jeff D. Curry, Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Rory Hendrix, Decatur and Mrs. Vernon Smallwood, Hartselle; a brother, Bruce Curry, New York City.

Active pallbearers will be GTrad Smith, Floyd Elkins, C.B. Haney, Carl Murphy, David Hames, H.W. Roan, Charles Neely and Raymond Thornhill.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Furniture Dealers Association.

Mr. Curry was a member of Southside Baptist Church, veteran of World War II and an Elk.
