Fritz was the son of Oscar Albert and Theresa 'Schachtschneider' Karberg and a graduate of Janesville High School. He married Frances 'Goethe' on October 12, 1940 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Janesville. Fritz worked for both the Janesville Gazette and the Rockford Morning Star before retiring in 1976. He was a member of St.Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was an usher for over 30 years.

Fritz was an avid bowler, bowling 3 times a week at River Edge Bowl, a Green-Thumb gardener and an ice fisherman. For years after his death, people still were asking if he had any tomatoes to sell. One of the bowling leagues he was a member of, actually was named 'Fritz and the Gang.'

He is survived by his two children, Donna (Alan) Bernard of Janesville, and Robert Karberg of Flagstaff, AZ. Fritz has four grandchildren who teased him relentlessly, but loved him dearly as he did them: Francene (Scott Hare) St. Michael, Robert (Bob) Bernard, both of Janesville, James (Heather) Karberg of Prescott, AZ and Todd (Lindsey) Karberg of Phoenix, AZ. In additiion he has 3 great-grandchildren, Darian St. Michael and Grace Runaas, both of Janesville and Robert (Robbie) Karberg from Prescott, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Edward Karberg and half brother, Oscar Karberg, Jr.

All who knew dad learned something from him. He readily and eagerly passed on his vast knowledge of his trades, especially gardening and the wisdom of his experiences.
