W. R. ELWOOD

W. R. Elwood was born in Indiana, July 26, 1851, and departed this life at the Baker Nursing home in Chariton on January 22, 1947, at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Most of his early life was spent near Trenton Missouri, in Sullivan and Grundy counties. In 1891, he was married to Mary Ellen Green in Sullivan county, Missouri. To this union were born five children, Clifford N., of San Francisco, Calif.; J. Richard, of Chariton; George E., who preceded him in death; Eva W. Ruark, of Des Moines; and Robert E., of Lomita, Calif.

Two children were born to an earlier marriage, Goldie Elwood, who preceded him in death and Harry Leroy, of Kansas City, Mo., who survives.

Early in life he united with the Methodist church, in which church he retained his membership until his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing 2 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 brother, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He has lived to see the passing of most of his friends of younger years, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held from the Miley funeral home, Saturday, January 25, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Virgil Swanson, of the Chariton Gospel Center, officiated. Burial was made in the Chariton cemetery.
