Nathaniel Montague, b. July 8, 1761, was aide to his father during the Revolutionary War, and afterward removed to New Hartford, NY; four miles from the city of Utica. He purchased 200 to 300 acres of land. He was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church for a large portion of his life. He died Dec. 15 1824 on the farm that had been his home at Whitestown, NY. The town of Montague, 16 miles north of Rome, NY, is said to have received its name from him.
