Asa lived in Kingsbury, NY until 1821; he then moved to Chautauqua Co NY. He and his family were among the first settlers of Boone County, Illinois. He followed his sons Andrew and Edward in 1836, bought land and built a log cabin, one of two in Belvidere. In 1837 he bought his farm from the Galena Land Office.
