Mr. Hersley was born in Greensburg and attended Greensburg Community Schools. He lived most of his life in Muncie. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He retired from Westinghouse in 1978. He was a member of VFW Post 651, American Legion Post 19, Eagles Lodge 231, and Westinghouse Sympathy Club.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Violet May Ruble Hersley; seven daughers, Sandy Hersley, Jackie Crabtree (husband-Frank), Dianna Downham, Becky Hersley, LaConda Mullett (husband-Ed), Glenda Bonshire (husband-Fred), and Judy Shields; a son, Ralph (Junior) Hersley, Jr. (wife-Cindy); 26 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Mary Carter Hersley, died in 1956. A sister and two grandchildren are also deceased.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Full Gospel Temple. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Parson Mortuary with military rites given by Veterans of Delaware County.
