A funeral service for Clemual C. Lewis will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Montelores Baptist Church with the Rev. Neely Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the Cahone Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Cortez.
Longtime area resident Clem Lewis went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 15, 2011. He was born at Cahone on May 26, 1922, the son of Clarence and Pearl (Rodgers) Lewis. Clem passed into eternal life at Mercy Hospital in Durango at the age of 88.
Clem married Berniece Neely on Oct. 17, 1944. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an outdoor enthusiast who thought Southwest Colorado was indeed "God's Country."
His beloved wife, Berniece Neely, preceded Clem in death. His parents, Clarence and Pearl Lewis; his brothers, Dale Lewis, Eldred Lewis, Prentice Lewis, Dick Lewis, Darl Lewis, Clyde Lewis; and his sisters, Emma Shock, Opal Ramsey, Milda Neely and Minnie Namanny, also preceded Clem in death.
Clem is survived by his children, Jeanine Trone, Gary (Mary) Lewis, Bernie (Joette) Lewis all of Cortez, and Neely (Krista) Lewis of Denham Springs, La. He also leaves brothers Leo Lewis of Cortez and Frank Lewis of Colorado Springs. Nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive him.
