MARY E. ROSS
---Miss Mary E. Ross of La Plata, Missouri was the daughter of Abel C. and Sophia Dudgeon Ross, who came from Boone County, Kentucky to Missouri in 1852 and settled in Shelby county near Shelbyville where Mary was born August 24, 1853. Two years later the family moved to Knox County and settled on a farm near Locust Hill where Mary grew to womanhood. In 1873 she was converted to Christ and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at New Harmony and never moved her membership.
---After finishing the public school she attended the academy at Hurdland and in 1889 entered the State Normal School at Kirksville after which she taught in the public schools of Macon, Adair and Knox counties. In 1906 she purchased a home in La Plata where she resided until the time of her death Friday, May 4, 1917, aged sixty-three years, eight months and ten days.
---Miss Ross was preceded to the better world by her father, mother and several brother and sisters. Those remaining to mourn their loss are one brother, J.T. Ross, Atlanta, Missouri and one sister, Julia Ross of Kirksville, Missouri, three half sisters, Mrs. T.J. Billings and Mrs. Hugh McReynolds of La Plata, Missouri and Mrs. Ella Billings of Las Animas, Colorado; three half brothers, W.V. and Wesley H. Ross of La Plata, Missouri and George M. Ross of Atlanta, Missouri.
---Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F.L.Hudson, after which the remains were laid to rest in the La Plata cemetery.
