Capt. John Boardman was a confederate veteran and a leading river man in the days of steamboat navigation.

Born near Gainesville, MS in 1843, and when 19, enlisted in Slocumb's Battery of the Washington Artillery. He served at Shiloh and Missionary Ridge. After the war he returned to New Orleans and engaged in steamboating on the Red River.

He was married to Miss Louisiana D'Arcy, daughter of the hatter, James Francis D'Arcy. He was a brother of Capt. A. Perkins Boardman. He was survived by a son, Charles P. Boardman, of Chicago, IL and a daughter, Mrs. Walter P. Lee, of New Orleans,
