Obituary - July 23, 1902:

Hester Ann Deal, daughter of John and Sarah Deal, was born near Lawrenceberg, Kentucky, September 19th 1820 and departed this life July 21st 1902 aged 81 years, 10 months and 2 days. Was married to Daniel Blocher. November 4th 1841, and immediately came to Scott County Indiana and located on what is now known as the Blocher farm in sight of the little village now called Blocher. Here the lite of her womanhood was spent, where she built up around her a great concourse of friends. She was familiar with the history of Scott County.

Sister Blocher was a woman of strong character. In her home the weary found rest and the distressed were comforted. To know her was to love her. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in early life. After coming to Scott county she placed her membership with the Bethel M. E. Church of which she remained a consistent Christian member until death. She was an affectionate wife a true help mate to her husband. She was all that the word "Mother" means to her family. She often said "I love all my children, and all my children love me."

She was esteemed and beloved by all who knew her and at the time of her departure she was ready and wanted to go to her Savior and when the end came she fell asleep in Christ. A good woman has gone to her reward.

She was the mother of eight children six of whom were living, two sons and four daughters. She leaves also twenty grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her departure.

Farewell, dear mother, again farewell

Soon we shall rise to thee.

And when we meet no tongue can tell

How great our joy should be.

By Mrs. Ella V. Reid. Prayer by Rev. William Cline, Prof of History and Literature in the Nebraska University.

The Rev. T. D. Hall selected for a text Second Corinthians Fifth Chapter and first verse and spoke of her life and the promises of God, after which she was laid to rest beside her husband in the Bethel Cemetery.
