Dionigi Dennis Asci, age 97, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died Jan. 16, 2011, at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. (Lovejoy) Asci. Born in Italy, the son of the late Guiseppe and Caterina (Del Gizzi) Asci, he had been a resident of Brockton since 1918, moving to Bridgewater in 2003 to live with his son Dennis and daughter-in-law Noreen. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1931. Before his retirement in 1978, he had been employed as a meat cutter by Stop and Shop supermarkets for 34 years working mainly at the Brockton, Weymouth and Braintree markets. During World War II, he was employed as a ship fitter at the Fore River yard of Bethlehem Steel. Previously, he had been employed by the Armour Packing Company in Brockton. He played baseball at Brockton High School and also played semi-pro ball for the city and Cape Cod leagues. He was a longtime communicant of St. Edward Church. He is survived by his son, Dennis E. Asci and his wife Noreen of Bridgewater; his brother, Samuel Asci of Brockton; two sisters, Antoinette Herman of Maryland and Angelina Peterson of Brockton; six grandchildren, Gini Duggan and her husband John, Jean Rubbo and her husband Peter and Dennis J. Asci of Bridgewater; Terry Asci, Joseph and Maria Asci of Taunton and Amy Asci of Stoughton; six great-grandchildren, Peter Rubbo, Collin Duggan, Kyle Duggan, Michael Rubbo, Alyssa Asci, Dylan Asci; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Joseph W. Asci, and brother of the late Americo and Margurite Asci. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 8 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Parish at 9 a.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
