Kirk is a descendant of John Gaines Biard, pioneer of Biardstown, Lamar County, thru his mother Mary Frances Kirkpatrick Ratliff and grandmother Manervia E. Biard Kirkpatrick, who migrated to Lamar County from Alabama with her parents in 1848.

Kirk's father DR Thomas Ratliff was a long-time doctor for Colorado City up until his death in 1939.
OBITUARY
Dr. D. K. Ratliff, 3105 Ave. T, who practiced dentistry here for more than 30 years, died unexpectedly at 3:35 am today (June 10) at his home.
Dan Callaway, justice of the peace, attributed death to natural causes. Funeral services will be held Wednesday in the chapel at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Ken Branam, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens, under direction of Bell-Seale Funeral Home.
A native of Paris, he had lived in Snyder 35 years and retired in 1976. He was a graduate of the Univerity of Texas at Austin and of Baylor Dental College. He was a member of Frst Baptist Church, the American Dental Association, the Kiwanis Club, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He also served as mayor of Snyder in the 40s.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, and a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Carolyn Jefferies of Oklahoma City.
