A couple of clarifications. This family headstone for my 2X great grandfather, James Merien Bottorff, incorrectly records his middle initial as "W". His father, was Allen Wade Bottorff, and one of his sons was named Francis Wade Bottorff.

On the 1900 US Federal Census for Ponca, Nebraska, his wife, Saloma was listed as the Head of the household with 3 sons, 4 daughters and a granddaughter living with her. Saloma was listed as a widower. This was incorrect. James was not living with his family at the time. He suffered as an alcoholic and was living elsewhere. When Saloma and the family moved up to Alberta, Canada sometime around 1901-1903, James was living in the Highland Park area, nearby Ferintosh and New Norway, Alberta, just north of Red Deer, Alberta. In the area, there were many Bottorff family members.

Saloma would pass away February 20, 1906 in nearby New Norway, while James would pass away not long after on October 8, 1908, in Highland Park. Both were buried at the New Norway Cemetery, together once again.
