John Nelson Badley was the son of Samuel L. Badley and Sarah Sophia Bowen Badley. He was a U.S. Scout for the Calvary, a stage coach driver and homesteader in Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma. He married Mary Ann Margaret Wells on 26 August 1860 at Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. She is buried next to him. Together they made two Land Runs into Oklahoma. "The Run" of 1869, into old Oklahoma, and "The Cherokee Strip Run", 1893. They were the parents of sixteen children, twelve of which they raised to adulthood. They were the Grandparents of eighty-three Grandchildren.
